I have a ’39 Studebaker car, and I am looking for gas struts to push open the hood, and support it in an open position, but permit me to lower the hood, and allow the struts to collapse.

How do I get an accurate measurement of the fully extended length and collapsed length, and where to determine mounting points for desired lidt?
